Huta Częstochowa is opening a new chapter in its history by starting efforts to obtain the prestigious ASME NQA-1 and ISO 19443 certificates. This is a strategic step that will enable the plant to join the elite group of suppliers for the nuclear energy sector.

A gateway to great investments
The ASME NQA-1 (Nuclear Quality Assurance) standard, developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, is a global quality benchmark in the nuclear industry. This document defines rigorous rules for the organization, production and management of the supply chain for elements that are key from the point of view of nuclear safety.
For the Częstochowa plant, obtaining these authorizations is a real chance to participate in the largest energy projects in the country and abroad.
Having the NQA-1 certificate will allow Huta Częstochowa to expand its product range and enter the nuclear installations market, including participation in the construction of future Polish nuclear power plants – emphasizes Adrian Sienicki, president of Huta Częstochowa Sp. z o. o
Challenges and new work organization
The certification process is not just a formality – it is a profound reform of existing management systems. As the director of the Quality Control Department, Arkadiusz Pyrkosz, points out, the NQA-1 standard introduces requirements that differ significantly from current standards. The steelworks must prepare new documentation in the areas of technology, maintenance and human capital, as well as invest in specialized measuring equipment.
We started the work in February with training for the Huta management, conducted by specialists from TÜV Nord, says Arkadiusz Pyrkosz.
Two standards strategy
In addition to the American standard, Huta simultaneously implements the European standard ISO 19443. Both systems complement each other, which makes their simultaneous implementation the most effective solution. While ISO 19443 is based on the ISO 9001 standard already known in the plant, NQA-1 remains a challenge requiring several months of preparation and the establishment of a special task force.
However, the goal is clear – full readiness to service the most demanding industry sector in the world.
– If Huta intends to participate in the supply chain of products important for nuclear safety, implementing the requirements of ASME NQA-1 and ISO 19443 is a necessity – sums up Arkadiusz Pyrkosz.
