Who is the deputy who signed the “first motion of censure”: he went through several political parties

Deputy Dumitru Coarnă announced that he was the first to sign the censure motion initiated by PSD and AUR against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan, claiming that his gesture is one of political responsibility.

In a post on Facebook, Coarnă said that the move is not a symbolic one, but a reaction to the current direction of the government.

“I signed the motion of censure first, not out of pride, but out of responsibility. The motion of censure is not a political image gesture, it is a constitutional instrument through which the Parliament can stop a government that has lost direction, trust and contact with reality. And when the decisions directly hit the economy, the country's resources and the standard of living of the Romanians, silence is no longer an option”. wrote the deputy.

The deputy accused the Executive of ignoring the public interest and transferring the costs of the decisions to the population.

“We are no longer talking about isolated mistakes. We are talking about a way of governing that ignores the national interest, that pushes the costs to the citizens and that treats Romania as an emergency administration. I signed this motion because a clear signal is needed: so far”, he also said.

Coarnă also emphasized that the Parliament must intervene in such situations: “Parliament is no showpiece. It has an obligation to step in when the Government goes off the rails. And that time has come. If there is real political responsibility, this motion must be supported. If not, every vote against will make it clear which side they are on.”

Dumitru Coarnă was elected deputy in 2020 on the PSD lists, later acting as an unaffiliated parliamentarian, and then in the AUR, later returning to independent status. The former trade union leader and ex-member of SOS Romania announced, in October 2025, the establishment of a new political party, The Alternative Force for Romania (FAR), which positions itself as a center-right alternative for Romanians disappointed by the current political class.

No-confidence motion PSD-AUR against the Bolojan Government

PSD and AUR announced on Monday that they will jointly initiate a motion of censure against the government led by Ilie Bolojan, a move that could lead to the dismissal of the executive in the current parliamentary configuration. The two formations claim that they have a real chance of obtaining the necessary majority for the motion to be adopted.

For the adoption of the motion, at least 233 votes out of the total of 463 MPs are required. PSD and AUR accumulate approximately 219 votes, being at the limit in obtaining the necessary support.

However, the opposition also relies on the support of other formations, such as SOS Romania, POT and PACE, but also on votes from unaffiliated parliamentarians, which could bring the total over the necessary threshold.

On the other hand, the Government led by Ilie Bolojan is supported by the National Liberal Party, the Save Romania Union and the Hungarian Democratic Union in Romania, which, together with the group of national minorities, would not have enough votes to block the motion in the event of a complete mobilization of the opposition.
