UDMR rejects the PSD-AUR motion and warns: If the government falls, Bolojan can no longer be appointed prime minister

“We are not withdrawing our ministers and we will not vote on a motion of censure, no matter who submits it,” said the leader of the UDMR deputies, Csoma Botond, after the PSD and AUR announcement regarding the dismissal of the Bolojan Government.
“If we see that the AUR has also entered the game, we will certainly not vote for such a motion of censure. In politics, never say never, but it will be an extremely difficult situation. I do not think that a PSD-AUR government will be reached. Of course, I cannot rule it out 100%, but I do not think so. There is also the option of not passing the motion”, declared Botond.
He added that “it will be very difficult to have a majority in Parliament, if PNL does not negotiate with PSD after the censure motion”.
In addition to refusing to support the motion, the leader of the UDMR deputies drew attention to a major risk: “You know that the CCR has a decision: Bolojan will no longer be able to be appointed, if somehow this government falls in Parliament. Honestly, if the PNL no longer wants to negotiate with the Social Democratic Party, I don't know what will happen.”
The legal precedent invoked by the UDMR leader is CCR Decision no. 85/2020, pronounced after Klaus Iohannis reappointed Ludovic Orban as prime minister, shortly after the Orban Government had been dismissed in Parliament by a motion of censure.
The Constitutional Court established then that the appointment of the candidate for the position of prime minister must aim at the formation of a parliamentary majority, not ignoring the effects of the no-confidence motion. In its reasoning, the CCR showed that the appointment of the same person dismissed by the Parliament can “annihilate the constitutional role of the Parliament” and violate the principle of loyal cooperation between state institutions.
At the same time, Csoma Botond emphasized the need for communication between the political forces to avoid a total deadlock: “I believe that in a parliamentary democracy we must discuss with the political parties. You can't say that you don't discuss. But I don't know how a new majority could be formed if the PNL declared that it no longer wants to collaborate with the PSD”, he added.
Csoma Botond reiterated the role of mediator of the Union, pointing out that the “jam” in the current coalition is a direct advantage for AUR.
