Huta Częstochowa obtained a license from the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration for the production and trade of products and technologies for military and police purposes. Thanks to this, the company's position in the context of the Polish defense industry is growing, the company emphasized.

This is a key decision for the company that tried to obtain it. The concession confirms our readiness to operate in an area that is important from the point of view of the state and industry, and at the same time strengthens the position of the plant as a strategic link in the Polish economy – said Adrian Sienicki, president of the management board of Huta Częstochowa, quoted in the press release.
Huta Częstochowa – as emphasized – is currently focused on further stabilizing production, streamlining processes and improving quality, as well as strengthening its market position. For the state-owned Węglokoks Group, of which it is part, the plant is of key importance. Węglokoks announced the adoption of a new strategy on March 30. As the company's spokesman, Michał Łyczak, pointed out, the strategy refers to business trends for several years – steel is gradually becoming the main pillar of the company.
Huta Częstochowa is the largest producer of thick sheets in Poland for the machinery industry, shipbuilding, construction (structural sheets), mining and energy (including sheets for pipelines). For over 120 years of operation, it has produced over 45 million tons of steel. It is also the only metallurgical plant in the country with technological capabilities to produce hardened thick sheets for the needs of the arms industry. It also includes one of the largest production halls in the European Union, which enables, among others, repair of military equipment.
In November 2024, the bankrupt steelworks was leased by a new company, Huta Częstochowa Sp. z o. o., whose 100% owner is the State Treasury company Węglokoks SA. In December 2025, the Ministry of National Defense purchased the assets of Huta Częstochowa from the bankruptcy trustee and transferred them to the Military Property Agency. At the same time, a letter of intent was signed between Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, Węglokoks and Huta Częstochowa regarding cooperation in the area of using the potential of the steelworks for the needs of the defense industry.
In April, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection received an application to establish a joint venture on the basis of Huta Częstochowa by Węglokoks and the Military Property Agency. The consent of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection is required in connection with the provisions on concentration. In the final solution, after the transaction, shares in Huta Częstochowa will be held by AMW and Węglokoks. These shares will be in similar amounts, but in the case of AMW they will not exceed 49.9%. and Węglokoks will acquire no less than 50.1 percent. (taking into account the shares currently held by Węglokoks in the company). (PAP)
