Carlos Alcaraz (22 years old), world number 2, announced on Friday evening that he has decided not to participate in Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, due to medical problems.

He had already said a few days ago, at the Laureus Gala, that he would seriously consider not participating in the tournament on the Parisian clay, if the risk of aggravating medical problems would be greater than the benefit, and a possible participation and new medical problems would put his future in jeopardy.

Carlos Alcaraz will not compete at Roland Garros

In addition to the decision not to participate in Roland Garros, a tournament that takes place between May 18 and June 7, the multiple Iberian champion will not even start at the Masters tournament in Rome (April 28 to May 17).

“Following the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing is to be cautious and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros while we wait to assess the development so that we can decide when to return to the court.

This is a difficult time for me, but I'm sure we will come out of it stronger,” Carlos Alcaraz said in a post on social media.

The Murcian withdrew 10 days ago from the Barcelona tournament due to a right wrist injury. He had reached the round of 16, but decided to withdraw, precisely to avoid risking a more serious injury, with the hope that he would be able to compete in Paris.
