Since the beginning of the year, 159 transplantations have been performed in Ukraine – results of the first quarter of 2026


Over the three months of 2026, 159 organ transplants were performed in 18 Ukrainian transplant centers, which is 15% more than in the same period last year. 70% of transplants were made possible through posthumous donation.

The largest number of organ transplants since the beginning of 2026 were carried out at the First Medical Association of Lvov – 43, at the National Scientific Center for Surgery and Transplantology named after A.A. Shalimov – 23, as well as in the Medical Center of Kyiv – 20. Ukrainian doctors performed kidney, liver and heart transplants. The most heart transplants were performed at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine – 12. The leader in the number of liver transplants was the Obereg clinic, where 18 such operations were performed. The most kidney transplants were performed in the First Medical Association of Lvov – 26.

At the same time, the transplant team of the Center for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery performed a heart transplant for the first time in a child. There are currently 3,957 patients on the national transplant waiting list. Of these, 2,389 require a kidney transplant, 734 a heart, 739 a liver, 57 a lung, 4 a heart-lung complex, 16 a kidney-pancreas complex, 5 a kidney-liver complex and 1 a liver-heart complex.

The number of hematopoietic stem cell transplants is also increasing. In the first quarter of 2026, 126 such transplants were performed in 13 medical institutions, 13 of which were for children. This is 22% more than in the same period last year. The largest number of bone marrow transplants were performed at the Okhmatdet National Children's Hospital – 26, at the Cherkasy Clinical Oncology Center – 24 and at the Medical Center of Kyiv – 20.

The most complex transplantations – from an unrelated donor – were carried out by teams from the Okhmatdet National Children's Hospital and the Clinical Center for Oncology, Hematology, Transplantology and Palliative Care of the ChOR.
