Layoffs in Łucznik? The Weapons Factory issued an urgent message: This is not true

The Management Board of Fabryka Broni “Łucznik”-Radom, referring to the statements of PiS candidate for Prime Minister Przemysław Czarnek about the lack of orders from the state and the threat of layoffs of 140 employees, announced that the politician's suggestions are not reflected in the company's situation, and some of his theses are untrue.

Suggestions that there will be a lack of orders in May this year and that the plant is at risk of layoffs are not reflected in the company's situation.“- said the management of “Łucznik” in a special announcement posted on its website.

According to the factory managers, the human resources policy is based on the current analysis of operational needs. “The previous decisions not to extend several contracts were of an individual and organizational nature. The statements about planned layoffs are not confirmed by the company's current decisions,” the statement said.

In the opinion of “Łucznik”, some of the theses presented by Czarnek are “inconsistent with reality and mislead public opinion.”

On Monday, at a press conference in front of the “Łucznik” Weapons Factory in Radom, the PiS MP said, among other things, that Donald Tusk's government is leaving Polish companies without orders from states. Referring to the situation at “Łucznik”, he said that employees were at risk of layoffs. “The last orders from the government are just ending. There will be no more orders in May. This workplace is at risk of laying off 140 employees,” the PiS politician said then.

Meanwhile, the management board of “Łucznik” noted that production “is carried out continuously, based on the current order portfolio, and natural transitions between subsequent implementation stages do not mean suspension of operations.”

The announcement also indicated that Fabryka Broni is currently implementing contracts not only covering deliveries of VIS 100 pistols until the end of November 2026, but also orders for GROT carbines and VIS 100 pistols in the years 2027–2029 and suspended grenade launchers in the period 2026–2029.

The Management Board also drew attention to the prospects for further development. According to him, technical arrangements are at the final stage enabling the introduction of the latest version of the GROT A3 rifle into the equipment of the Polish Armed Forces.

“The company remains prepared to implement subsequent contracts, in particular in the context of the announced directions of development of the Polish Armed Forces and increasing their numbers,” it was emphasized.

The Management Board noted that the company is also developing sales on the civilian market – including export – and strengthening cooperation with uniformed services, including those subordinated to the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

Referring to the issue of investment and production capacity, the management board indicated that the level of PLN 80,000 rifles per year, which Czarnek attributed to earlier orders from the United Right government – was achieved only after the new production hall was put into use and equipped with modern machinery. This occurred in November 2025.

The suggestion that the current production capabilities are solely the result of the actions of previous governments is a simplification and does not reflect the real, multi-stage nature of the company's development process – emphasized in the company's press release.

At the same time, the Management Board indicated that the investment process is part of a broader modernization program, including, among others: project “Robotization and digitization of production processes in the Weapons Factory”, co-financed by the National Reconstruction Plan, with a total value of PLN 25.96 million (including PLN 8.36 million in funding), scheduled for completion in June 2026.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk talked about the situation in “Łucznik” in Radom. – The case is very close to being solved – he assured. He assessed that the problem “results from the veto” of the act implementing the EU SAFE mechanism by President Karol Nawrocki.

– We are doing everything to ensure that the “Łucznik” plant does not find itself in a difficult situation, even though Nawrocki vetoed an instrument that was supposed to directly help “Łucznik” (…). We are looking for a different solution, it is a hundred times more difficult. We have found this solution and the “Łucznik” plant will definitely be saved, but it will unfortunately cost more money and more problems. This is thanks to President Nawrocki – added Tusk.

As the government emphasizes, talks are currently underway to determine how to redirect part of the EU funds to services and infrastructure. The loan agreement under SAFE – as Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Tuesday – is to be signed in April.

In March, President Karol Nawrocki vetoed the bill implementing the SAFE armament mechanism. It assumed the creation of a Financial Security Enhancement Instrument managed by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, through which the government could use money from SAFE – the EU's instrument of low-interest loans for quickly increasing the defense of EU countries. According to the government's declaration, 89 percent these funds would go to Polish arms companies, and in addition to the army, the Police and the Border Guard were also to be supported. The Polish application submitted to the program amounted to EUR 43.7 billion and was approved by EU institutions. Thus, Poland was indicated as the largest beneficiary of the program worth a total of EUR 150 billion

The government, later adopting a resolution on the Armed Poland program, declared its intention to take out a loan for the existing Armed Forces Support Fund. However, according to the regulations, funds from the Fund may be transferred only for purposes directly related to the army. (PAP)
