VTB top manager spoke about the evolution of relations between banks and marketplaces

Russian banks and marketplaces are moving to a more mature interaction model and may in the future launch new joint business solutions focused on customer convenience.

Olga Skorobogatova, First Deputy President and Chairman of the Board of VTB, spoke about this in an interview with RBC. According to her, the evolution of relations between banks and marketplaces can be described through psychological stages, much of which have already been passed.

“It’s like the principles of psychology – at the beginning there is denial, then acceptance, then creation. It seems to me that the stage of denial with marketplaces and marketplace banks has already been passed.”

She noted that changes are happening on both sides: as banks are reconsidering their attitude to ecosystems, so the marketplaces themselves are beginning to re-evaluate the limitations of their own banking model: “Not only the banks that saw fair threats in marketplace banks, but also the marketplaces themselves began to understand that, having only your own bank, you will not give your client all the services and products that he wants to receive.”

According to Olga Skorobogatova, the next stage could be the formation of new forms of partnership and joint business models between the participants:

“I think both communities are now in the adoption stage, and I see the next step as some kind of thinking about new business models between banks, marketplaces and marketplace banks.”

“Partnership is still not kickboxing, but rather tango, when, feeling each other, you must agree on what will be best for the client and how you will earn money – both one partner and the other. This is a difficult dialogue, very difficult. I think that such dialogues will begin. How successful they will be, and how far the parties will advance in this, time will tell,” added Skorobogatova.
