The creator of fake websites from Volzhsky deceived a Krasnoyarsk resident and received a “condition”

The creator of a network of fake websites from Volzhsky received a suspended sentence for deceiving a Krasnoyarsk resident. The prosecutor's office spoke about this.

In September 2023, a resident of Krasnoyarsk found an advertisement on the Internet for the sale of a car engine. The cost of the part, 170 thousand rubles, suited him. Having contacted the manager of the auto parts site, the buyer promptly received the necessary documents and agreed to an advance payment of half the amount – 85 thousand rubles. But after the funds were transferred, the seller stopped communicating: the man did not receive either the engine or the refund.

As the investigation found out, an organized group of scammers was behind the ad. The attackers created a network of fake websites on the Tilda platform, promoted them through Yandex.Direct and coordinated their actions in a closed chat on Telegram. There was a clear division of roles in the group: some communicated with potential victims, others dealt with the technical side of the issue

One of the technical specialists turned out to be a 34-year-old resident of Volzhsky. The man created decoy sites, promoted them, administered them and covered his tracks – he used encryption and camouflage to avoid being detected. But one day the encryption failed. Law enforcement officers located the attacker, detained him, and seized computer equipment and stolen money.

In court, the specialist did not admit his guilt:

“I was just doing one-time orders to develop business card websites,” he explained. “I didn’t know that people would be deceived there.”

However, despite this, the court found him guilty of fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to 2 years of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of 2 years.

The victim filed a civil lawsuit and his money was returned. Law enforcement officers separated the cases of the remaining members of the group into separate proceedings.
