Billionaire Rinat Akhmetov (59 years old), the richest man in Ukraine, with an estimated fortune of 8 billion dollars, has purchased a huge five-story luxury apartment in the most luxurious new complex in Monaco. Bloomberg was revealing the astonishing amount of 471 million euros, this being one of the largest individual real estate transactions in history!

Almost two weeks after coming from Romania, at the vigil of Mircea Lucescu with whom he collaborated for 12 years at Shakhtior, billionaire Rinat Ahmetov gave a real real estate cannon.

He bought a new 21-room beachfront complex in Monaco in the Mareterra district. This new area, built on land reclaimed from the sea, was inaugurated by Prince Albert II in 2024 and has attracted ultra-wealthy investors from around the world.

Located on a rocky outcrop between France and Italy, Monaco has long been the most expensive real estate market in the world due to its small size and tax haven status.

The Mareterra neighborhood was built over a decade on land reclaimed from the sea and includes 114 luxury villas, townhouses and apartments arranged around gardens, a harbor and a public promenade.

The most expensive apartment in history!

According to the first information, the apartment covers approximately 2,500 square meters, not counting the balconies and terraces overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It also has a private pool, jacuzzi and at least eight parking spaces.

Journalists from Bloomberg note that the deal was completed two years ago, but now it was found out who really owns the building. The reported price would make this the largest known home sale in history: $554 million!

Beating the recent sale of developer Nick Candy's Chelsea mansion for over $350 million or the sale of a New York penthouse to hedge fund manager Ken Griffin for around $240 million.

A three-room apartment = 76 million euros

Rinat Ahmetov has a fortune of more than $7 billion, with investments in metallurgy, mining and energy, in addition to the real estate sector.

Ahmetov has also been associated with a number of other ultra-luxury real estate purchases in the past, including the 2019 purchase of the historic Villa Les Cèdres on the French Riviera for €200 million.

In 2011, Akhmetov also reportedly bought a penthouse in London's prestigious One Hyde Park complex, opposite the Harrods department store in Knightsbridge.

Currently, properties in Mareterra have been sold at prices of €100,000 per square meter, according to local estate agents! For example, a three-bedroom property is currently on the market for about 76 million euros, as Bloomberg journalists note.
