Xavi, wanted on the Moroccan national team bench

Xavi Hernandez he is free of contract from 2024, after parting with Barcelona, the team with which he won the title and the Spanish Super Cup.

“The Moroccan Football Federation is convinced that the Catalan technician, interested in an extensive project, represents the profile of a coach capable of leading the national team to the 2026 World Championship.

The objective is to confirm the performance of Qatar 2022, when Morocco finished the competition in a historic 4th place. The mission promises to be complicated, and Xavi is seen as the ideal solution to achieve this goal“, the Spaniards write.

Until then, Morocco must announce the separation from Regragui, and then the Federation must satisfy the Catalan's demands, four months before the start of the World Championship.

Morocco has scheduled two friendly games until then: on March 27 with Ecuador, respectively on March 31 with Paraguay.

Xavi only coached two club teams, Barcelona and Al-Sadd.

The dismissal of Xavi, a decision taken by Laporta in 2024

In 2024, Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, took the decision to fire Xavi: “I take responsibility for the decision as for all decisions, together with my board of directors.

But I also took into account the decision of the sports management and since I had Flick's option, I executed it. It gave us a lot of confidence to see that he knows the team more than we thought“.

Xavi sat on the Barcelona bench for 143 matches, during which he achieved 91 wins, 23 draws and 29 defeats.
