The leader of the championship, U Cluj, comes to Mioveni to fight for a place in the final of the Cup in front of a losing team, FC Argeș.
The “Purple Eagles” have not been able to find their compass for several stages and, on top of that, they received the worst possible news: they did not receive, in the first phase, a license for European cups, due to salary arrears that significantly damaged the atmosphere in the dressing room.
U Cluj, in a fierce battle with CSU Craiova to win the title, saw its streak of invincibility stopped last stage, with the failure suffered on Dinamo's field. Despite the fact that it is engaged on two fronts, it is expected that the team from Cluj will line up the standard formula against the people from Pitesti.
U Cluj won the previous two direct games against FC Argeș: 1-0 in the play-off, a duel marked by the huge blunder committed by Cătălin Căbuz, and 3-1 in the championship, at Cluj Arena.
FC Argeș has never won the Romanian Cup. The club's most important performance in this competition came in the 1964/1965 season.
Then, the people from Pitesti lost the final even in front of the University of Cluj. Basically, it's the re-editing of the final from 61 years ago, although the two teams had different names then: Dinamo Pitesti, respectively Știința Cluj.
The supporters of FC Argeș came to the training
On Sunday, FC Argeș fans went to the team's training before the Cup semi-final match, in an attempt to encourage the players before the decisive match.
Two days before the Romanian Cup semi-final match, several supporters from Peluza Nord Pitești went to the training of the Trivale team. They lit torches and sang with the players, so that their morale would be at the highest levels at the match on Tuesday, in Mioveni.
“Bring the Cup to Trivale!” was the exhortation published by supporters on the official Facebook page.
To bring the trophy, to present himself and bring the Cup! I can't wait to see them. How do I get it? That if we concede two more goals like this, we won't bring any Cup. Naturally I am very angry. U Cluj is a much better team. He has 10 consecutive victories. They beat us 2 weeks ago, it's clear that they are better. We know very well what U Cluj means, as a game and as support.
– Bogdan Andone, FC Argeș coach
We will see how we will be after the match with Argeș. I hope I can lift the morale of the players, because we have a very, very important game, a Cup semi-final that gives you the opportunity to play a final. It's very important for us, because we have to reach the European cups, that's the goal.
At the moment we are in first place, I think that through the championship we can also reach the European cups, which is our goal, but it is clear that the match with Argeș is decisive and can be decided in extra time or in penalty kicks.
– Cristiano Bergodi, U Cluj coach, according to fcucluj.ro
