April 21 11:15

A Red Book black stork rescued in Tuva was delivered to Krasnoyarsk. This was discussed in the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society.

The weakened bird was found in the area of the healing spring Tarys, Tere-Kholsky kozhuun. An expedition team of the Tuvan Republican Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, led by experienced ornithologist Taigana Mochek, came to the aid of the stork. Thanks to the actions of professionals, the bird was saved; the Red Book bird was named Tarys, after its location.

After the rescue, the black stork was transported to the Abakan Zoo, and now Tarys was sent to the Roev Ruchey flora and fauna park in Krasnoyarsk. Now the bird is in quarantine, experts are studying its condition. Depending on the results of the research, Tarys may become part of a breeding program for rare animal species.

The staff at Roev Ruchey have a goal: to create a pair for a rare bird in order to preserve and increase the endangered species. In the park's enclosure there is a female named Chika, who arrived in Krasnoyarsk two years earlier from the Moscow Zoo.

“The story of Tarys is not only a story about the salvation of one bird, but also a reminder of the importance of caring for nature and how much we can achieve together. After all, all stages of the rescue operation were carried out with the support of the Russian Geographical Society – the efforts of the Tuvan Republican and Krasnoyarsk regional branches of the Russian Geographical Society combined,” the activists noted.
