Shooting in Kiev. The services considered it a terrorist act


President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the police and the SBU are investigating all the circumstances of the attack.

“He held hostages and, unfortunately, killed one of them. He killed four people directly on the street. Another woman died in hospital as a result of serious injuries,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

“Four hostages were saved. At the moment, it is known that 14 people have been injured. This number, unfortunately, may increase as more people seek help. Among the injured is a boy, he is 12 years old,” added the Ukrainian leader.

The president also said that the attacker set fire to the apartment before going out into the street with a gun, and that he had a previous criminal record. “He has previously been held criminally liable. He lived in the Donetsk region for a long time and was born in Russia,” he explained.

The Ukrainian prosecutor's office reported that the attacker killed by the police was a 58-year-old resident of Moscow. TVN24 reported that when the full-scale war with Russia broke out, he was supposed to be living in Bakhmut in the Donetsk Oblast.

“We are currently determining everything we can learn about him and why he did it. Every detail needs to be checked. Investigators are considering several versions of events. All his electronic devices, telephone and contacts will be checked,” Zelensky said.

Earlier, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that in the Holosiiv district of Kiev, a 58-year-old man opened fire, killing five people, then barricaded himself in a supermarket room and took hostages. A sixth person died in the store. According to preliminary data, the attacker used automatic weapons. He died during an assault carried out by the KORD special police unit.
