Before planting beets – be sure to: 2 handfuls in the soil – and the root crop will grow even, large and sweet

Every summer resident knows that beets will grow in any case, even if you just stick them in the ground and forget about them. However, without care, the root vegetables will turn out small, crooked and tasteless. For this reason, the bed must be prepared in advance in order to obtain an excellent beet harvest.

Choose a place and put compost

First, find the sunniest area, dig up the soil and add compost. Approximately 10 liters of compost will be needed per square meter. This fertilizer loosens the soil and prevents it from drying out quickly, says an experienced gardener, author of the blog “My Successful Dacha” (18+).

Useful soil additive

Sprinkle nitroammophoska over the garden bed, approximately 30 g per square meter (one heaped tablespoon). This is a universal fertilizer in which three main elements are already mixed:

  • nitrogen – for rapid growth;
  • phosphorus – so that the root crop is formed evenly;
  • potassium – for sweetness and density.

After this, level the ground with a rake and lightly tamp it down. Now the bed is ready. You can safely plant beets – the result will pleasantly surprise you.

Result

Root crops will grow even, dense and very large. These beets will keep well all winter and will delight you with their sweet taste. No frills or crooked “tails” – just a selected harvest that you won’t be ashamed to show to your neighbors and put on the table.
