“Il Luce” died on April 7th at the age of 80 and was buried 3 days later at the Bellu Cemetery. On April 8 and 9, there was a vigil at the National Arena, where more than 20,000 people participated cumulatively over the two days.
From the political world, among the personalities who appeared at Mircea Lucescu's catafalque was Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. Instead, the president Nicușor Dan was not at the stadium, now reasoning that he did not want the event to be marked by the presence of the politician.
Nicușor Dan says why he didn't go to Mircea Lucescu's catafalque: “I didn't want to go to a political area with my presence”
“I was impressed by the harmony that this unfortunate event caused in the world of football. I saw football people… I have this passion to watch the sports area. I watch the comments more, I'm more interested in the reactions. I don't have a TV at home because of the kids, so they don't watch.
All those days when the casket was at the National Arena were emotional. I didn't want to go to a political area with my presence.
The fact that people were extraordinarily decent, they were there with their families, is a good thing for Romania. When good things happen, we have to welcome them”, said Nicușor Dan, this evening, on Europa FM.
