US Central Command reported on Wednesday that during the first two days of the US blockade of Iranian ports, no ship passed through, and 9 vessels sailing from or to Iranian ports turned back at the request of US forces.

“During the first 48 hours of the U.S. blockade of ships entering and leaving Iranian ports, no ships passed beyond the U.S. force line. Additionally, nine ships complied with U.S. military orders to turn around and return towards an Iranian port or coast,” CENTCOM said in a statement on Platform X.

On Tuesday evening, CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said that thanks to the blockade, U.S. forces “completely stopped trade to and from Iran via sea,” adding that he estimated 90 percent of it. Iran's economy is “driven by maritime trade.”

At the same time, according to American officials, over 20 merchant ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours, the Wall Street Journal reported. The US blockade does not apply to ships sailing from the Persian Gulf that have no ties to Iran. (PAP)
