Nicușor Dan says which of the Prosecutor's Office chiefs he has “great confidence in”. When will he organize the referendum from the judiciary

President Nicușor Dan once again rejected the idea of a “political barter” on the appointments made recently at the head of the big prosecutor's offices, he also affirmed that he has great confidence in Cristina Chiriac, appointed to lead the General Prosecutor's Office.
“It was not a political barter, the law forbids it. If you ask me about a preference of mine, I have great confidence in Mrs. Chiriac,” said the head of state, on Thursday, in a show on Europa FM, when asked about the controversial judicial appointments.
Plea for the head of the General Prosecutor's Office
Invited to comment on the accusations against Cristina Chiriac regarding the fact that she did not indict the former bishop of Huși, Corneliu Bârlădeanu, for sexual abuse of some students from the theological seminary in Huși, the president said that things were completely different.
“There were two files, one at the DNA for blackmail, the one for abuse at the General Prosecutor's Office. In the DNA file there were no minors, there were no abuses. It was a blackmail with some films because there was no abuse, but a consensual act in which there were no minors. In the file from the Iași Court of Appeal, there were testimonies and other evidence that led to the conviction for aggression against minors,” commented the president.
Nicușor Dan said that he expects the new heads of the prosecutor's offices to boost their activity, speaking of “a horizon of six months”. He specifically referred to the new head of DIICOT, Codrin Miron.
“From Mr. Miron, I expect a real fight with the big drug trafficking networks. Prosecutors hid behind indicators. At DIICOT, if you caught a network or a consumer, so many indictments were made. I am also interested in the area of financial evasion”, explained the president.
When he was asked how he explains the fact that public figures who previously supported him, such as Cristian Tudor Popescu or Tudor Chirilă, harshly criticized him for accepting the proposals of the Ministry of Justice for the heads of prosecutor's offices, Nicușor Dan said that he did not suspect them of bad faith.
“I was a little surprised that the attacks started before I finished my explanations. It's normal, we are a Latin people, emotional. After we had the press conference, I'm waiting for people to decant the information and look objectively at the data of the problem,” said the president.
Referendum for justice, organized in 30 days
Regarding the allegations regarding the malfunctioning of the judicial system in the Recorder documentary, Nicușor Dan said that the allegations must be proven, and this cannot be done immediately.
“These are matters that require time and precisely because they are serious, they are in our attention. It would be good if the professional associations already have them documented”, appreciated the president.
He added that he has not given up on the idea of a referendum among magistrates, even if he has already accepted the proposals for the head of the Prosecutor's Office. The consultation is to take place in the next 30 days.
“The prosecutor's office is only a part of the world of justice. The reported problems are rather in the area of judges, that's why it is useful to see. Like any form of referendum, it will validate or deny a hypothesis”, concluded Nicușor Dan.
