US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he had spoken with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that the two leaders had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire. The fighting is to be stopped at 5 p.m. Washington time (midnight Lebanese time, 11 p.m. in Poland).

Israel has been fighting Lebanese Hezbollah for a month and a half. The Iran-backed Shiite group remains outside the control of the Lebanese government, which is seeking to disarm it, which Israel also insists on.
Hezbollah has been fighting Israel for years, the current version of the conflict broke out after the attack by American-Israeli forces on Iran. There is a two-week truce in the conflict with Iran.
Trump announced the ceasefire in Lebanon in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The US president added that his officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will work to achieve lasting peace between Israel and Lebanon. (PAP)
