According to the Russian government, the demand for technical specialists – electromechanics, foundry workers, welders – is steadily growing, and the demand for skilled workers in industry already exceeds supply several times. Last year, a detailed seven-year forecast was formed, which provides an understanding of what and how many specialists will be needed to solve current problems in the near future, and also creates the basis for taking the necessary steps to balance the labor market and coordinate student training.

Mikhail Kotyukov noted in his speech that personnel training is a key challenge for the Russian economy. “Enterprises are already experiencing a shortage of specialists: the education system cannot keep up with the growing demand. And for technological leadership projects, the situation is even more complicated – many specialties, as well as technologies, do not yet exist,” the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory outlined the problem.

To solve it, he made four proposals:

  • Together with business, predict personnel needs for promising industries and include them in the target figures for admission to universities and colleges.
  • Launch “Professionality 2.0” with in-depth secondary vocational education programs: to train not only specialists in mass blue-collar professions, but also personnel for advanced industries.
  • Integrate all existing educational tools into providing technological leadership: youth research laboratories, student design bureaus, advanced engineering schools, world-class research centers.
  • Involve innovative scientific and technological centers that work without bureaucratic restrictions and are aimed at quick results.

“It is necessary to create such conditions so that in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and other regions every schoolchild and student, when choosing an engineering profession, immediately sees their path in the technological future of the country,” emphasized Mikhail Kotyukov.
