If regular onions seem too harsh or bland, this simple marinade is sure to change your mind. All you need is three ingredients and minimal effort. The appetizer goes great with barbecue, herring, potatoes and any salads.
You will need:
Onions – 2 medium heads
Apple cider vinegar – 1 tbsp. spoon
Sugar – ½ teaspoon
Salt – a pinch
Warm water – 3-4 tbsp. spoons
How to cook:
- Cut the onion into thin half rings or cubes, as you prefer.
- Place in a bowl, add salt and sugar, press lightly with your hands until the juice appears.
- Pour in apple cider vinegar and warm water, stir and leave for 10-15 minutes.
- Drain off excess liquid and add a drop of vegetable oil if desired.
The onion loses its bitterness, becomes soft, slightly sweet and crunchy. It does not interrupt the taste of the main dishes, but emphasizes them, making each portion juicier and more interesting. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to two days.
Bon appetit!
