The new price becomes effective from the day following its announcement in Monitor Polski. If the message appears before a holiday, it is valid until the next business day.
Exceeding the established limits may result in severe financial consequences. Selling fuel above the maximum price is subject to a fine of up to PLN 1 million, and compliance with the regulations is supervised by the National Tax Administration.
The maximum price is not set arbitrarily, but results from a specific mechanism. It takes into account the average national wholesale fuel price, which includes, among others: excise duty, fuel fee and sales margin of PLN 0.30 per liter, and then VAT.
