employees of the Gulag History Museum leave after changing their profile

All exhibits from the previous exhibition have already been removed from the building, and part of the collection is packed for transport. It is not known where these items will be transported.

The new version of the museum was scheduled to open on April 19, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide of the Soviet People. Currently, however, the working opening date is June 22 – the anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, as the eastern front of World War II is called in Russia.

In February, Moscow authorities announced that the Gulag History Museum would be renamed the Museum of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide of the Soviet People. Nadezhda Prepodobna, deputy director of the Department of Culture of the Moscow authorities, said during a staff meeting on February 20 that the museum intends to show analogies between the “genocide of the Soviet people” and what is happening “on the battlefields” in Ukraine.
