The National Real Estate Resource (KZN) wants to put 4,000 sq m into use. apartments in 2026 in the Social Housing Initiative (SIM) formula; the goal by the end of 2029 is 30,000. apartments – said the president of KZN, Łukasz Bałajewicz, during Thursday's press breakfast.

“This year we plan to put into use about 4,000 apartments (…) What is important, and what we observe in the phase of handing over these apartments for use in the formula of social housing initiatives, is actually dispelling the myth of cheap construction,” said Bałajewicz.
“Our projects are as good as the commercial market in terms of quality, and thanks to stable rents, they give a sense of security to people who cannot afford a loan and whose income is too high to apply for a municipal or social apartment,” he added.
The President of KZN indicated that the goal by the end of 2029 is to build nearly 30,000. apartments.
“In the coming months, we will launch further investments in further locations. As of today, we have already obtained 407 building permits in social housing initiatives. The total number of communes that cooperate with us under SIM is 548, so this is almost one fifth of local governments across the country,” said Bałajewicz.
“Currently, 158 investments are underway, and ultimately we plan to build nearly 30,000 apartments by 2029. As I mentioned earlier, the short-term goal for this year is to exceed the 4,000 apartments put into use in the formula of social housing initiatives,” he added.
In 2025, the National Real Estate Resource put into use 1,013 apartments in the SIM formula.
“Last year confirms the effectiveness of our activities. We completed 1,013 apartments in the SIM formula. As of today, over 1,500 apartments have already been completed. Additionally, we contributed approximately 27 hectares of land to the companies, which will translate into the construction of another 1,600 apartments nationwide,” said Bałajewicz.
“Our share in social housing in 2025 was as much as 31 percent. The numbers I have quoted now are the most tangible evidence that KZN has already entered the phase of effective implementation of the goals for which it was established,” he added.
The National Real Estate Resource is a state institution whose mission is to fulfill the obligation of public authorities to pursue a policy conducive to meeting housing needs.
The most important tasks of KZN include, among others: managing real estate included in the Resource, creating conditions to increase the availability of apartments, taking actions aimed at implementing housing investments and creating conditions facilitating the creation of municipal apartments.
