Gigi Becali, after he was again left without a license for speeding: “There was no one on the street”. The more he drove on the Pipera Road on the night of the Resurrection

Gigi Becali, the patron of the FCSB football club and also a member of the Romanian Parliament, remained without a driver's license for three months, even on Easter night, after the traffic police caught him driving on the Pipera Highway at 109 km/h, on a road sector where the speed limit is 40 km/h.

Also, Gigi Becali was sanctioned for contravention, the police found that he did not have the necessary legal documents on him.

The Traffic Brigade of the Capital Police informed in a statement that a 67-year-old man was spotted in traffic driving the car at 109 km/h, on a section of road with a speed limit of 40 km/h, reports News.ro.

“On April 12, at around 04:00, policemen from the Road Brigade, who were acting to maintain road safety on the streets of the Capital in the context of the Easter holidays, detected a car on the Pipera Road traveling at a speed of 109 km/h, on a sector of the road where the limit is 40 km/h, being recorded by the radar,” states the Road Brigade, quoted by News.ro.

Following the checks carried out, the traffic police found that the car was driven by a 67-year-old man, who did not have the documents required by law. The driver was penalized for contravention, and as a complementary measure, the suspension of the exercise of the right to drive for a period of 90 days was ordered, the Road Brigade also specifies.

Gigi Becali: “That's it, we're hiring a driver!”

Judicial sources later informed that the driver in question is Gigi Becali.

In a statement for GSP.ro, Gigi Becali said that he will contest the sanction, stating that the police “only lie in wait there”.

“And what if? It's true that they took my license. I'm just waiting there, at 4 in the morning. There are four lanes, how do I go? I don't think it's right like that, at 40 km/h… Let's change it! There was no one on the road, there was a danger of taking my license. When I stopped, I thought I wasn't speeding, but that's not the case. I'm going to challenge it in court. They do it on purpose so that lie in wait. That's it, we're hiring a driver!”, Becali told GSP.ro.

Becali is not the first traffic violation, he was also caught in May of last year exceeding the legal limit by 65 kilometers/hour. And then the police fined him and suspended his license for 90 days. The financier FCSB contested the fine in court, but lost, the verdict being given at the beginning of March 2026.
