Many summer residents grow potatoes on their plots and quite often look at the lunar calendar to determine the planting day.
It is believed that it is best to do gardening during the waning moon (between the full moon and the new moon). But it is not recommended to plant tubers on the full or new moon itself, since on these days the plants are considered too vulnerable.
Full moon and new moon in May-June 2026:
- full moon – May 1 and 31, June 30;
- new moon – May 16, June 15.
It is also important to remember your zodiac signs. The most productive signs for potatoes are Taurus, Cancer, and Scorpio. Capricorn, Virgo, Pisces, Gemini, Libra and Sagittarius are a little weaker, but also good.
The most favorable days for planting potatoes in 2026:
- May: 1, 2, 6, 7, 11, 12, 19, 20, from 26 to 30 May.
- June: 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 12, 13.
Important! If you are late in planting mid-season and late varieties, they simply will not ripen before the cold weather. But in central Russia in the summer it makes sense to plant only early varieties.
Don't forget about the landing site
The ideal soil for potatoes is black soil. However, as agronomist Anastasia Vasilkova notes, potatoes are an unpretentious crop that can withstand even slightly acidic soils.
The only thing that must be observed is crop rotation. The best predecessors are cabbage and any other root vegetables. However, you should not plant potatoes in the garden bed where tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants grew last year.
