VIDEO Melania Trump, unexpected reaction at the White House on the subject of Epstein: “I was not his victim”

US First Lady Melania Trump vehemently denied on Thursday that she ever had anything to do with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, calling for congressional hearings for survivors of Epstein's sex trafficking, reports The Guardian.

It is unclear what specific allegations prompted Melania Trump to respond publicly. She made her unexpected remarks in the same room that Donald Trump used to address the nation on the Iran war last week.

In statements, Melania Trump denied online rumors that Epstein had introduced her to Donald Trump, calling them “malicious attempts to smear my reputation.”

“I was never friends with Epstein. I am not a victim of Epstein. Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump,” Melania Trump said.

The US first lady went on to say that she and President Trump have been invited to the same parties as Epstein “from time to time” because “overlap in social circles is common in New York City and Palm Beach.” But she specifically denied that her emails to Maxwell were anything more than “casual correspondence.”

Melania Trump tells how she met Epstein

In her statement, Melania Trump explained that she only met Epstein for the first time in 2000, at a party she attended with her husband. At the time, she was known as Melania Knauss.

“I have never met Epstein before and had no knowledge of his criminal actions,” Melania Trump said.

“Numerous images and false statements about me and Epstein have been circulating on social media for years. Be careful what you believe,” she added.

The Epstein files released by the Justice Department earlier this year did indeed contain a brief exchange that appeared to be between Melania Trump and Maxwell. It was signed: “With love, Melania.”
