Finland has asked the European Commission for €35 million for protection against drones


With these funds, the Finnish Border Guard will purchase systems for detecting and countering drones.

“The acquired systems will significantly improve Finland’s ability to monitor drones on the eastern border and in the Gulf of Finland. At the same time, a capability will be created to counter UAVs,” the statement says.

Procurement will be carried out mainly in 2027–2029.

The ministry points out that the EC provides funding for the protection of countries that are “subject to increased and multifaceted pressure, hostile or destructive actions at their external borders.” A total of €250 million has been allocated for these purposes.
