A pack of wolves was captured by a monitoring camera located in the Călimani National Park, and the images published by the National Directorate of Forests – Romsilva offer a fascinating look at the behavior of these wild animals. The footage shows wolves sniffing and scrutinizing their surroundings when they detect an unfamiliar scent, most likely human.

In the images you can see the moment when the animals suddenly become alert and hesitate, and the leader of the pack, the alpha male, is the one who takes the first step towards the source of the smell.

The images show the moment when the animals detect an unknown smell, most likely human, and the leader – the alpha male – is the one who steps forward and approaches the source first”Romsilva sent in an official message.
Specialists emphasize that this behavior is natural and reflects the hierarchy and well-defined roles within the pack. Wolves do not seek contact with humans and prefer to retreat when they detect their presence. “Wolves do not seek human contact. On the contrary, they avoid it, and we constantly try to respect their space”Romsilva representatives explained.
Scientific data confirms this type of behavior. Research shows that wolves perceive humans as a threat and, in most cases, choose to avoid any approach, according to wwf.eu. Moreover, a recent study showed that wolves react much faster to the presence of humans than to other stimuli in nature: they are more than twice as likely to flee and leave the area much faster when they hear human voices.
