The Minister of Energy, asked when the oil price drop will be felt at the pump: “Somewhere in three to four weeks”

The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, stated that there is a gap of “three-four weeks” between the reduction of the international quotation of oil and the cheapness of the fuels we purchase in gas stations in Romania.

“Just like when the price of 10 lei and 50 money was not felt from the first day of the war, the delay (gap, delay, no) is somewhere around three to four weeks,” the official said on Wednesday at Digi24.

He explained that “it's the same mechanism as in the entire European Union and worldwide”.

“If at the beginning of this military conflict, from the moment the diesel left at 1,200 dollars a ton, it arrived in Romania in a week and a half, two, three weeks, at the pump. Obviously, bought at 1,200 plus costs, the real price has been paid since then. This time, the stocks are of diesel bought at 1,500 dollars. The moment the diesel goes to 1,000 dollars, for example, and it will stabilize there, we hope, we will be able to talk about a price that in two or three weeks will also be seen at the pump in Romania”, added Bogdan Ivan.

The minister said that if, against the background of the armistice announced by the USA and Iran, “we will have two weeks, for example, of a 20% reduced price and a stable, constant price at which oil and diesel are purchased, it is obvious that in another two or three weeks this price will also be seen here, in Romania, just like in any country around the world”.

Ivan: We were affected by the attacks on the Kazakhstan terminal

Minister Bogdan Ivan specified that Romania does not depend on imports from the Persian Gulf, from where “we were bringing in below 7% – 8%”, but “we were affected by Ukraine's attacks on the port of Novorossiysk, unfortunately, on the Kazakhstan terminal of the KazMunayGas company, from where we import oil for the Petromidia refinery in Năvodari”.

That attack happened on Sunday night. We re-routed with KazMunayGas, we found another source of oil, which comes from the Gulf of Finland, but which will have to bypass the whole of Europe, come to the Black Sea, the Bosphorus, another delay, which takes us three weeks longer. We are talking about 100,000-ton oil tankers,” the Minister of Energy said.
