Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan went Thursday morning to the National Arena, where Mircea Lucescu's coffin is laid, to pay his last respects. At this moment, it is not clear whether the president Nicușor Dan will make a similar gesture.
On Thursday, after holding a moment of silence at the coffin of Mircea Lucescu, Prime Minister Bolojan also made a short statement upon leaving the National Arena:
“I am here as a sign of respect for the lifelong work and career of a man with a prestigious career. May God rest Mircea Lucescu”, declared the prime minister.
According to HotNews information, President Nicușor Dan will not go to the National Arena, but one of the advisors of the head of state will lay a wreath on behalf of the Presidential Administration.
Fans who want to pass in front of the coffin guarded by the honor guard to pay their last respects to the great coach can still do so today until 20:00.
Public access is allowed through a controlled circuit, organized to ensure the fluidity of visitors.
The funeral of Mircea Lucescu, on Friday, with military honors
Funeral services will conclude on Friday. The funeral cortege will move to the Church of Saint Eleftherie, where the funeral service will begin at 10:00. Participation is limited to family and close friends.
Later, from 12:20, the ceremony will continue at the Bellu Cemetery, where the former selector will be buried with military honors. The burial is scheduled for 1:10 p.m., and public access will be restricted, per the family's wishes.
