The average price of a liter of diesel at gas stations in Germany reached the level of EUR 2.5 on Tuesday, according to data from the ADAC automobile club. A liter of E10 petrol there currently costs EUR 2.24.

Compared to Monday, the price of a liter of E10 petrol in Germany increased by 7.6 euro cents on Tuesday, and diesel by 9 euro cents.
Since last Wednesday, gas stations in Germany can only increase prices once a day – at noon. Failure to comply with the new rules will result in fines of up to PLN 100,000. euro. By introducing this measure, the government intended to reduce prices, but this step did not bring the expected results. Fuel prices are breaking records – diesel is the most expensive in history on Tuesday, and E10 petrol is just over one eurocent short of the record set in early March.
German Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) appealed on Thursday to the Christian Democrat coalition partners to take further action to combat rising fuel prices. Among the ideas he presented is imposing a tax on windfall profits on fuel companies.
On Tuesday, the head of the German Farmers' Union, Joachim Rukwied, warned about the serious consequences of rising fuel prices. – If the federal government continues to act on hope and does not react decisively, it will lead many farms to serious problems with financial liquidity. Thus, the upcoming harvest and the security of food supplies in Germany will be at risk – he told the dpa agency. (PAP)
