Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, said on Wednesday that the ceasefire between the US and Iran is needed due to the fuel market and “our civilization”, which is in favor of peace. He expressed hope that this process would continue and lead to lasting peace.

On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, just before the deadline for the ultimatum set by President Donald Trump, the US and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire. Part of the Pakistan-brokered ceasefire is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, Trump announced that “all civilization will perish tonight” and said that although he doesn't want it, it will probably happen. He previously threatened to destroy all bridges and power plants unless Iran concluded an agreement and opened Hormuz.
When asked about the ceasefire during a press briefing, Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that the situation was discussed during Wednesday's regular National Security Committee of the Council of Ministers.
– It's good that the situation is calming down temporarily and hopefully in the long run. This is necessary for the sake of the fuel market for every customer, for every country. But it is necessary for the sake of our civilization, he emphasized. – A civilization that stands for peace, for normality, for respect for human life, for everything that Western civilization has been for hundreds of years – added the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
He expressed hope for “continuing this process” and achieving a lasting ceasefire and peace.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also noted that there is currently no question of the return of the Polish Military Contingent to Iraq. In March, Polish soldiers from PMC Iraq were evacuated due to the tense situation in the region; a significant part of them returned to the country, and the rest were relocated to Jordan to continue the mission there as part of the contingent.
