The Minister of the Economy, about a possible rationalization of gasoline and diesel: “There are risks and multiple scenarios”

In the next 2-3 months there will be pressure on fuel prices, but Romania has an advantage, having crude oil production, says the Minister of Economy, Irineu Darău. He says he can't have an answer about how the war is going or the price of fuel.

Irineu Darău was asked, on Tuesday, on Digi 24, when Romania will reach the rationalization of fuel consumption, after four airports in Italy reduced flights shorter than three hours, prioritized emergencies, in the sense of rationalizing kerosene, and in France, gas stations that charged a lower price were left without fuel after a few days.
“There are risks and there are multiple scenarios. I think, however, without pretending that the perfect solutions have been found, so far (…) correctly sized measures have been taken and we notice that in Romania there is no rationalization, there is no shortage of supply, there is, compared to the Government's measures, a small price drop compared to the level from which it started on that day. The rest depends on what will happen”. said Darău, writes Mediafax.
Rationed fuel at the pump?
The Minister of Economy was asked whether Romania will allow citizens to buy fuel at the pump with a ration, and he said that he will not make predictions.
“Just as on the positive side it would be risky to make predictions, it is exactly the same on the negative side. This, of course, must be one of the last absolutely necessary measures, if at some point, such as this, the crisis will evolve for the worse and we will have to take such measures, they will be taken. But we are not in that situation. Romania also has a peculiarity of production internal. (…) I also understand the need of the people, first of all, but also the need of the media for safety. But I ask you, rhetorically, very sincerely, does anyone have this answer? I would like to know if anyone in this wide world has the answer related to the evolution of the war or the evolution of fuel prices. First of all, I think some would get rich from this prediction, but the perfect decisions would also be made all over the world. All states fine tune from week to week with different measures. Note that the measurements are not very similar. The specificity of each state must be kept in mind. We have an advantage. The fact that there is crude oil production in Romania matters in this equation. And maybe that's why, along with the government's measures, we don't have a crisis out of control yet, but we can't downplay the international crisis that doesn't depend on us.” Darau also said.
