The Epstein scandal. Bill Gates will be questioned by a committee of the US Congress regarding his links with the sex offender

Billionaire Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, will be heard on June 10 by a commission of the American Congress investigating the Epstein scandal, a source close to the file told AFP on Tuesday, confirming information disseminated by Politico, reports Agerpres.

Bill Gates will be heard behind closed doors by this committee of the House of Representatives, which wants to interrogate him regarding the connections he had with the sex offender.

A spokesman for the billionaire, quoted by Politico, said that Bill Gates “relishes” the opportunity to appear before the commission.

“While he has never witnessed or participated in any of Epstein's illegal acts, he is eager to answer the commission's questions to support this important work,” the spokesman added.

At the end of February, Bill Gates declared that his links with Jeffrey Epstein were “an enormous mistake”, admitting to members of his foundation that he had extramarital affairs with two Russian women, but denying any involvement in the actions of the financier, who died in custody in 2019 before the opening of the trial in which he was accused of sexual crimes.

According to Gates, his relationship with Epstein began in 2011, three years after the latter pleaded guilty to soliciting prostitution of a minor.

A draft of Epstein's email, published by the Department of Justice in the mass of documents from the Epstein file, evokes extramarital affairs of Bill Gates.

Mentioning a person's name in the Epstein file does not a priori imply an illegal act, but these documents at least show links between Epstein or his entourage and certain personalities who often minimized or even denied the existence of such relationships, AFP notes.
