Iran's ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, said on Tuesday that talks to halt hostilities were nearing a “critical stage.” Pakistan is playing the role of a mediator in the armed conflict between the US and Israel with Iran, which has been ongoing since February 28.

“Pakistan's positive and productive efforts, made with good will and commitment, to stop the war are approaching a critical, sensitive stage…” the Iranian ambassador wrote on Platform X.

The news appeared several hours before the deadline set by US President Donald Trump, who threatened that if At 8 p.m. Eastern American time (2 a.m. in Poland), the authorities in Tehran will not conclude an agreement guaranteeing the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran's key infrastructure will be destroyed.

American-Israeli attacks on Iran and Tehran's retaliatory actions led to the paralysis of tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in a sharp increase in oil and gas prices around the world.

On Monday, the media reported that both Iran and the US rejected the proposal prepared by mediators for a 45-day ceasefire. Pakistan, Egypt and Türkiye play the role of mediators in the conflict. (PAP)
