A Krasnoyarsk resident was hospitalized with a rare disease after taking antidepressants

In Krasnoyarsk, taking antidepressants provoked a severe allergic reaction in a patient. The press service of the regional clinical hospital reported on the situation.
Recently, a man was admitted to the hospital emergency department with complaints of a rash all over his body, including the mucous membranes of the mouth and genitals.
“Generalized maculopapular rashes, erythema, large blisters filled with serous contents, erosions on the skin and mucous membranes,” this is how the hospital described the rashes.
The patient was urgently sent to the intensive care unit as his condition was very serious. Doctors determined that he had Stevens-Johnson syndrome. This is a rare disease.
“The patient consulted a psychiatrist, after which he was prescribed antidepressants. It was these medications that caused a severe allergic reaction,” said allergist Olga Ishchenko.
The man was prescribed a course of intensive therapy and treatment in a specialized department. He was given immunoglobulin and also used non-drug methods such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This allowed the patient's condition to be stabilized. He will continue his treatment at home under outpatient supervision.
The hospital reminded that it is impossible to delay with such allergic diagnoses – this threatens the irreversibility of the processes.
