In the “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) on April 5, 1939, a large article “Writers of Birobidzhan”, author E. Dekhtyar, was published. The material provides an overview of the works of such writers as B. Miller, G. Rabinkov, S. Borges, G. Vinokur, L. Wasserman.
This is how the article presents the work of B. Miller:
“Busy Miller, from his very first stories, attracted the attention of critics. In Miller’s first stories there was, of course, a lot that was naive and artistically unformed, but at the same time it felt its own, original.
One of Miller's best stories is “Gold” (12+). In this story, Miller artistically, convincingly and vividly showed capitalist remnants in the minds of people. This story is a turning point in his work. From this point on, he moves on to more advanced works of art.
Miller's main theme in recent years is the people of Birobidzhan, patriotism.
The stories he published in the newspaper “Birobidzhaner Stern” (12+) testify to his ability to work fruitfully in this area.
In his latest stories, Miller successfully uses folk motifs and folklore elements, carefully processing them.
But, of course, not all of Miller's stories in recent years are at the same artistic level. Sometimes Miller sins with far-fetchedness and superficiality, for example, the short stories “Why She Cried” (6+), “A Heartfelt Gift” (6+), etc.
Miller also works a lot in the field of literary criticism. His endeavors in this area are very successful…”
