The search for an F-15 crew member continues
On Friday, two crew members ejected when Iran shot down an F-15. The pilot was rescued by American special forces, and the search for the weapons system officer continues. The cost of the F-15E Strike Eagle is estimated at approximately $31 million.
After the F-15 was downed, an A-10 was mobilized to assist in the search mission. This plane was hit by Iranian air defense, Iranian television reported. There was one pilot on board the attacker who managed to reach Kuwaiti airspace. There, he ejected and the plane crashed, a source told NBC News. The remote control is safe.
The Iranians also hit two Black Hawk helicopters that were taking part in a search and rescue mission. Crew members suffered minor injuries, but all of them are safe.
CBS News reported that the F-15 pilot was rescued by two American helicopters. One of them was hit by the Iranians while being rescued on board. Crew members were injured. The New York Times reported that it was a Black Hawk and the plane safely reached Iraq.
On Friday, in an interview with the Independent, President Donald Trump said that he was not yet ready to reveal what the US response would be if the wanted officer was harmed.
