Travel alert. Sweden reintroduces controls to internal borders by November

Romanians traveling to Sweden are always advised to have a valid identity card, after the Swedish authorities have announced the reintroduction of controls to internal borders since May 12, 2025.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has announced that the Kingdom of Sweden will reintroduce control at the state internal borders, the measure being valid between May 12-November 11, 2025. The information was transmitted on Sunday in a press release.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends to the Romanian citizens to ensure that they have permanently on them, during the trip to and from the Kingdom of Sweden, a valid identity card (passport or national identity card)”, Stated in the statement, according to Agerpres.
For consular support, Romanian citizens can call the Romanian Embassy at Stockholm at the phone number +46 8 205 674. Calls will be redirected to the Center for Contact and Support of Romanian Citizens from abroad (CCSCRS), where operators provide permanent assistance.
