The Minister of European Funds, amid tensions in the coalition: “Romania no longer needs politicians who flex their muscles on TV to make the party look good”

The Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragoș Pîslaru, called for “maturity” on Friday, in the context of the tensions in the governing coalition, and declared that “any attempt to destabilize the Government is an act of serious irresponsibility and a proof of total disrespect towards Romanians”.
Pîslaru, who took over the leadership of MIPE at the PNL's proposal, warned that “we are not living in normal times”, given that there are wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, “external pressures, economic volatility” and a crisis on the energy market, and said that “the maturity of politicians is best seen in the ability to put the country above the party's interest or the personal interest of any politician”.
The minister of European funds drew attention to the completion of reforms and investments from the PNRR, “the budget, credibility and direction of Romania in the future” also depend.
“I can understand the political competition, the differences of opinion, and even the temptation of some populist messages, in desperate search of electoral capital. This is nothing new for Romania. But I cannot understand how someone could think that they can push a country into a political crisis just to serve their own interest. This is no longer politics. It is irresponsibility,” said Dragoș Pîslaru, on Friday, in a post on Facebook.
The minister's statements come amid tensions in the coalition, where the PSD has constantly criticized the liberal Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and announced an internal referendum on the possibility of exiting the government.
Pîslaru: Romanians do not expect circus and drama from the political class
The Minister of European Funds said that the remaining reforms in the PNRR “are non-negotiable” and “are worth, in financial terms, hundreds of millions of euros”.
“They are non-negotiable. They must be done on time and without excuses. No behind-the-scenes games. No repeated threats in the public space that “we'll leave the coalition”, “we'll see what we do”, “maybe break the government”. We have the obligation to collaborate, find solutions and push things forward. That's what the Romanians from the political class are waiting for. No show. No circus. No drama”, added Dragoș Pîslaru.
He concluded by saying that “Romania no longer needs politicians who flex their muscles on TV to make the party look good”, but “leaders who understand the importance of the moment we are in and who put the duty to the country above everything else”.
