NBP is gaining in the eyes of young people. CBOS shows surprising results

CBOS published March's social confidence results for the largest institutions. The National Bank of Poland attracts special attention.

Half a year: worse sentiment towards the central bank
Compared to the previous measurement in September 2025, NBP quotations have clearly deteriorated. The percentage of positive assessments decreased by 3 percentage points – from 54 to 51 percent. At the same time, the group of critics increased significantly: from 19 to 25 percent, i.e. by as much as 6 percentage points. There were also some fewer undecided respondents.

This change means that public criticism of the central bank's actions has been growing in the last six monthsalthough more Poles still rate NBP positively than negatively.
Year on year: clear improvement
However, the same survey shows a completely different picture compared year to year. In March 2025, 45% of respondents assessed the NBP's activities as good. respondents, and bad – 31%. Currently, it is 51 and 25 percent, respectively.

This means an increase in positive ratings by 6 percentage points and an identical decrease in negative ratingswith an almost unchanged share of undecided respondents. In the longer term, the NBP has regained some of the public trust.
Young people clearly support the NBP
However, the most interesting results are obtained when the ratings are broken down by age. In the 18-24 age group, as many as 70 percent respondents evaluate the activities of the National Bank of Poland positivelyand only 8 percent expresses critical opinions. This is the best result among all analyzed age groups and as much as 19 percentage points higher than the average for the entire population.

For comparison, 51% of people in society as a whole declare positive opinions about the National Bank of Poland. respondents. Young people are therefore much more favorable towards the central bank than older generations.
CBOS research shows that The NBP is best perceived by the youngest people, those with less education and those in a worse financial situationwhile the most criticism comes from residents of the largest cities, people with higher education and the highest incomes.

Strong political division in the opinion of the National Bank of Poland
The assessments of the National Bank of Poland are also clearly politically polarized. A clear predominance of positive opinions can be seen among supporters of PiS and both Confederation groups – in these electorates, good ratings reach over 70%. In turn, critical opinions dominate among supporters of the Civic Coalition, and the National Bank of Poland is one of the worse rated state institutions.

Average level of criticism of the NBP
Compared to other public institutions, NBP is currently in the middle of the pack, as shown by CBOS research. The percentage of negative assessments (25%) is clearly lower than in the case of the Sejm or the courts, but higher than in the case of security-related institutions, such as the army or the Border Guard.
According to the CBOS survey, the balance is therefore ambiguous: in the short term – weakening of the image, in the long term – a clear improvement, and even record good ratings among young voters.
