The Krasnoyarsk Territory celebrates the 63rd anniversary of the blocking of the Yenisei at the hydroelectric station site

25 March 15:31
63 years ago, the historical closure of the Yenisei took place at the site of the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Station. According to the plan, the work was supposed to last three days, but the workers completed it in a record 6 hours 36 minutes. This was a real triumph for the country.
The closure began at 10 a.m. on March 25, 1963. The first concrete tetrahedron with the inscription “Submit, Yenisei!” dropped a MAZ-525 driven by Leonid Nazimko. Today this MAZ stands on a pedestal in Divnogorsk – as one of the main symbols of the city.
In total, 8,600 cubic meters of concrete tetrahedrons and cubes, oversized stones, rock and sand and gravel mass were placed at the base of the lintel. The work was carried out simultaneously from both banks – 200 dump trucks filled the riverbed without stopping until the river was finally stopped.
The first to cross the newly filled, still “fresh” cofferdam were the heads of the main structures department: Georgy Tikhonovich Gorlov – on the left bank and Alexander Fedorovich Sychev – on the right bank. Their handshake symbolically connected the right and left banks of the Yenisei.
“On the same day, March 25, the hydraulic builders received congratulations by phone from Nikita Sergeevich Khrushchev, and six months later, on September 25, 1963, the first cubic meter of concrete was personally laid in the station part of the dam by Yuri Gagarin. On July 26, 1967, an act was signed on acceptance of the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Station for commercial operation with an “excellent” rating,” say representatives of the Krasnoyarsk Hydroelectric Power Station.
During the construction of the station, innovative engineering solutions were used that had no analogues in world practice. The construction experience was subsequently applied not only in the Soviet Union, but also abroad.
Currently, the Krasnoyarsk HPP is part of the En+ energy and metallurgical holding and is one of the key hydroelectric power plants in Russia.
