What does the situation look like in Romania's qualification group for the 2027 European Championship
Romania is in 3rd place in the qualification group for the European Championship. 1st place, which leads directly to the tournament in Serbia and Albania, seems out of the question as Spain have already accumulated 18 points with 4 games to go in the campaign.
In second place is Finland with 13 points, while Romania has 10. The Nordics beat us in the round match with 2-0. A win against San Marino would bring the “tricolors” to level points with the Nordics, but they also have an easy match against Cyprus. Costin Curelea's team should also be careful about the goal difference. The Finns have a goal difference of +21, while Romania is only +1.
Until the end of the qualification campaign, Romania still has to play Cyprus, Finland and Spain. In the end, in case of a tie with Finland, the first tie-breaker refers to the points obtained in direct matches. Next is the head-to-head score difference, then the number of goals scored in head-to-head matches, and then the goal difference. If Romania won 2-0 against Finland, the tie would be perfect in the first three criteria, but the Nordics would go to the playoffs on goal difference.
San Marino has a series of 12 consecutive defeats, and all the national teams have won by score, except Romania. The small “tricolors” won only 2-0 in San Marino.
A few days ago, Romania U21 won in Kosovo with 1-0. On March 26, San Marino lost 8-0 at home to Finland.
The batch called by Costin Curelea:
Alin Boțogan, the player from Petrolul, also appeared in the squad called by Costin Curelea, but he left the training camp after being injured, right after the match with Kosovo.
