The main draw matches of the 2026 edition of the Țiriac Open begin, with the three Romanian wild card beneficiaries going to compete on Tuesday, March 31, alongside four seeds, Sebastian Baez, Daniel Altmaier, Mariano Navone, Botic van de Zandschulp.
Monday, March 30, was reserved exclusively for the Țiriac Open 2026 main draw qualifiers, after Sunday could not be played due to persistent rain. For Tuesday, however, things change: the games on the main grid begin, with the agreement of the same weather conditions that represent the major challenge of this edition.
The forecast looks encouraging, only with a cloudy sky, humidity of 75% – 10% chance of rain, and a maximum temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. So is the program because it includes many matches, including those of the three Romanians who received wild cards for the main draw. Four favorites will also be in the field.
Three Romanians in action on the main table
Filip Jianu (24 years old, world number 246), the best-ranked “tricolor”, will play against the Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (33 years old, number 74 ATP). It will be a repeat of the duel they fought last year also on the clay at the National Center, in the second round, when Dzhumhur prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
For Filip, however, in the inaugural round was his first victory on an ATP table, 6-3, 6-4 against the American Nishesh Basavareddyand the first for a Romanian since October 2019, when Marius Child he reached the quarter-finals in Antwerp, defeating the Argentines Federico Delbonis and Diego Schwartzmann.

Adrian Boitan (26 years old, 306th place ATP) will face the Dane for the first time Elmer Moller (22 years old, world number 22), again Radu Turcanu (20 years old, 659th place ATP) will also be in the first match against the Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko (25 years old, world number 75).
The 2025 finalist returned to Bucharest
Also on Tuesday, the first battles on the European clay of the year will also enter four series leaders, from 5 to 8. The Argentinian Sebastian Baez (25 years old, 50th place ATP) will have a first match with the Lithuanian Vilius Gaubas (21 years old, world number 108).
Finalist last year, defeated by Flavio Cobollithe South American is on his second appearance in Bucharest. He has already played three tournaments on the red surface in 2026 in South America, reaching the semi-finals in Buenos Aires and Santiago and being eliminated in the first round in Rio de Janeiro.

German Daniel Altmaier (27 years old, 52nd place ATP), seed 6, will face Pedro Martinez (Spain, 28 years old, world 113), the Iberian leading 2-0 in direct matches, both on clay, in Kitzbuhel 2021 and Estoril 2024. Altmaier is a debutant in Bucharest, Martinez a quarter-finalist in 2024 and 2025.
Mariano Navone (25 years old, 60th ATP), seed 7, and Christopher O'Connell (31 years old, world number 128) will fight for the first time in the professional circuit. The Argentinian played the final in Bucharest in 2024, lost with Marton Fucsovicsand last year he stopped in the 2nd round, defeated by the same opponent.
The Australian was also in 2025 at the Țiriac Open and went up to the “quarters”, eliminated there also by Fucsovics.
favorite 8, Botic van de Zandschulp (30 years old, 62nd place ATP) will meet the Italian Francesco Maestrelli (23 years old, world number 114), a first-ever clash. The Dutchman also performed in 2025 in Bucharest, losing in the 1st round, his opponent is in his first appearance.
On Tuesday, the two young Romanian players who received invitations also played in the qualifiers. Stefan Haita (18 years old, 1389 ATP place) faced the Austrian for the first time Joel Schwarzler (20 years old, world number 176) and played a very good, brave game. The more experienced opponent prevailed, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (0).
