Several pro-Kremlin formations have formed an electoral alliance for parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova.

The Socialist Party, the Communist Party, as well as the Viitorul Moldova and the heart of Moldova formed an electoral alliance for the parliamentary elections scheduled in the Republic of Moldova on September 28. According to a Moldovan expert, this alliance is part of the Kremlin strategy to stop the European course of Chisinau.

The announcement regarding the establishment of the electoral block was made by the leaders of the four pro-Russian formations. This is the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), led by Igor Dodon, the Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM), whose leader is Vladimir Voronin, the Future of Moldova whose president is Vasile Tarlev, and the heart of Moldova, whose leader is Irina Vlah.
In the opinion of Igor Dodon, former president of the Republic of Moldova, currently investigated in several criminal files, the union of forces of “Left and center-left in a patriotic block will respond to the expectations of more than half of the voters of the Republic of Moldova and, with their support, will allow to obtain the majority of mandates in Parliament and the training of the Government.”
“We honestly want to form a patriotic block. I hope that we, the leaders and teams of the parties, manage to find a common language, to show political maturity and to put the national interests of the country above the party ambitions ”, said the PSRM leader.
The proximity to Russia
The pro-Russian stressed that the block is a sovereign offer that follows victory in parliamentary elections and restoring relations with the Kremlin.
“We do not like to be called the poorest in Europe, we are against our citizens to begging abroad. We can live and work with dignity on our land, for the good of our children and grandchildren.” concluded the socialist.
Irina Vlah added that, with the formation of the block, it begins, the countdown, and most citizens are with us. On September 28, we will play Moldova to the people ”.
“We are open for mobilization, consolidation and saving the country. Unfortunately, our country is in danger and we must set aside all the intrigues, all the tricks, otherwise we will lose Moldova”, said Vasile Tarlev.
And former head of state Vladimir Voronin stressed that “The formation of the block is a very difficult process, and the participants have faced resistance from all sides.”
“And if, in this process, any of us will show group or selfish interests, we will only have the memory of this briefing. In order to go forward, we have to understand the problems and difficulties that await us. We have a great responsibility”, concluded the PCRM leader.
Expert's point of view
Andrei Curararu, an expert in public policies of the Watchdog.md community, argues that the formations in the block are trying to hijack the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU, bringing the country back to the arms of the Kremlin.
“Three of them according to the polls would not have entered the Parliament. So the Union also has a role to save these miserable percentages. I call themselves “patriotic block”, but in the back is something else: a political construction to teach the de facto control of the country to the Kremlin. The block appears after months of synchronization between the leaders involved. In July 2025, Igor Dodon, Irina Vlah and Vasile Tarlev were in Moscow, where they met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Novak to discuss direct deliveries of Russian gases and possible post-electoral agreements. A few days later, Dodon was officially received at Minsk by Aleksandr Lukașenko, who transmitted “support” and the availability to help Moldova restore the lost connections with the east. Unofficially, I am part of a political repositioning strategy. And the idea of direct gas deliveries from Russia – promoted by Dodon as a saving solution – is technical and logistical unrealistic. Moldova has no functional direct connections with Gazprom, and Ukraine will not allow an uncontrolled transit in the current war context. It's an electoral diversion ”said the expert.
In the opinion of Andrei Curararu, the block represents a new piece on the playing board of the Russian influence in the Republic of Moldova, mentioning that the main instrument of the Kremlin is the fugitive ilan Şor oligarch.
“If we were to use a chess metaphor: Kirienko, the Kremlin man who manages these operations, is the king. Ilan Șor Regina – mobile, unpredictable, with fast and chaotic attacks. Șor controls both official parties and some screen – some are sacrificial pawns, others behave like crazy, unpredictable and dangerous. Formations such as rebirth or alternative force work on the edge, but are used strategically – masked, difficult to follow, but connected to the same control center. The announced block is something else: it's the tower. Stable, massive, disciplined. He does not jump over the lines, but he goes straight to the goal. And he has what. The block controls an important part of the nostalgic vote, especially in the north and south of the country. It has active mayors, the networks of influence remaining from Dodon's period, and people who know how to mobilize. And the question that is planning now is simple: will they also receive the votes bought by Ilan Șor's network? Because his block was not admitted in the race by the electoral commission, but the network is still there: activists, methods, money, loyalties. All they miss is a new vehicle. And this block has all the conditions to become that vehicle ”, concluded the Moldovan expert.
At the end of last week, the Central Election Commission (CEC) from Chisinau rejected the request for registration of the victory block, led by the fugitive oligar Şor, invoking reasons for legality and risks to the constitutional order.
