The selector of the national football team of Romania, Mircea Lucescu (80 years old), is admitted to the hospital under medical supervision, after he was hurt. “Il Luce” fainted during a training session of the tricolors, in the training camp in Mogoșoaia, before the friendly match with Slovakia, on Tuesday evening (21:45, Bratislava).

In the past, referring to a statement that belonged to Scottish manager Sir Alex Ferguson (84 years old), Mircea Lucescu said that the most beautiful thing that can happen to a coach is to die on the field.
“Those of us who have lived a life on the pitch are too old to leave football. You say for nothing that you dream of retiring at some point… You simply can't. You don't need peace!
I would like to die on the field. It's the best thing that can happen to a coach. It means you've been through absolutely everything in life right there in the middle of the fight“, the Romanian technician commented a few years ago.
Ferguson and Lucescu were in the same camp, in 2018, when they supported Ionuț Lupescu together in the FRF elections against Răzvan Burleanu. Lucescu's current boss clearly prevailed at the polls, after “crushing” his rivals, as he declared at the end, in his victory speech.
Under the command of Lucescu, the Romanian national football team missed the qualification for the World Championship in the USA, Canada and Mexico, after 0-1 with Turkey, on Thursday, in the semi-finals of the qualifying bar for the final tournament.
The selector of the national football team, Mircea Lucescu, will remain hospitalized for monitoring and specialized treatment at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital, where he was brought on Sunday following a “major” heart rhythm disorder, the health unit announced.
“The patient was brought to the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital following a major heart rhythm disorder that occurred outside the hospital environment. Currently, the patient is under the care of medical teams, undergoing diagnostic investigations and therapeutic interventions necessary to stabilize the heart rhythm. The patient will remain hospitalized in the Bucharest Emergency University Hospital for monitoring and specialized treatment“, it is stated in an information sent by SUUB.
Previously, the Romanian Football Federation had announced that Mircea Lucescu was urgently admitted to a hospital in the capital, after he was hurt during the technical session preceding a training session.
“During the technical meeting preceding the last training before the departure to Slovakia, the selector Mircea Lucescu was hurt. The first assistance measures were taken immediately by the members of the medical staff of the national team, who gave him first aid on the spot“, informs a press release from the FRF.
According to the FRF, following the call to the 112 emergency service, two SMURD crews urgently went to the training base.
“The prompt intervention of the medical staff allowed the quick stabilization of the technician“, indicated the federation.
At the beginning of this year, Mircea Lucescu was admitted to a hospital in the capital for antibiotic treatment following a subcutaneous infection. The technician later went overseas to get a second opinion on another medical issue.
