The United States and Israel carried out intense attacks on Iranian security forces in northwestern Iran early in the war, intended to facilitate an invasion by Kurdish forces “all the way to Tehran,” according to a Channel 12 investigation. The report confirmed a plan by Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency, to use Kurds to overthrow the regime in Tehran.

Tens of thousands of armed Kurdish fighters were said to have crossed the border into Iraq in the first days of the war, using American and Israeli air support. They were then to join forces and supply weapons to Kurdish fighters in Iran, fight the regime's forces, and help reignite protests across the country, the report said.
Among Kurdish groups – based on interviews with members of Kurdish organizations – there was general agreement on “cooperation to overthrow the regime.”
The attack was postponed after its plan was leaked to American media in early March, Israeli investigators said.
The Mossad had allegedly been working on the plan for years, working with the CIA to arm the Kurds. A positive assessment of the plan, it added, helped Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu convince US President Donald Trump to launch an attack on Iran on February 28.
Gaps in the plan and Kurds' fears
The report said the plan was “full of loopholes.” They opposed him, among others: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and several Persian Gulf countries, which feared the collapse of Iran, which could lead to destabilization of the region.
It was noted that the Kurds themselves were distrustful, fearing that the US and Israel would withdraw from the fighting, the regime in Tehran would rebuild its strength and take revenge on the minority.
