Sorin Grindeanu, attacks in a flurry in Bolojan: “I am self-criticizing, I did not anticipate that it has nothing to do with the economy. And something is still missing”

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu harshly criticized Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Saturday, accusing him of a lack of empathy and saying that “he has nothing to do with the economy”. “Everything he did brought the economy down,” Grindeanu said.

Grindeanu's statements were made in Târgovişte, at the County Conference of the Dâmboviţa Local Elected League.

“I make a self-criticism and say that I didn't anticipate – and I apologize for that – I didn't anticipate one component: the fact that Ilie Bolojan has nothing to do with the economy. The way he leads and the measures he takes have nothing to do with relaunching, let's say, the economy, because Romania's economy, at this moment, needs relaunch measures. On the contrary, everything he did brought the economy down. And we'll see in the months future as all macroeconomic indicators will be of this type, with a minus”, said Grindeanu, quoted by Agerpres.

The leader of the social democrats added that it should not be governed for Excel tables, but for people.

“Something is still missing. Empathy. When you govern, you govern for the people, you don't govern for some Excel tables that can be good for you today and tomorrow be different. You don't govern to be good in front of, I don't know, the banks. Which, speaking of banks, last year had the biggest profit in history, in Romania. And then we will do an internal consultation and see what our path is,” Grindeanu added.

PSD's three scenarios regarding governance

The PSD president recalled the three options of the social democrats.

“In principle, we have three options to choose from. One – to remain in this form in which we are now, without doing anything, that is, to change nothing. Two – to go into opposition. And three – to try to do a reconfiguration of the coalition within the coalition. These are the three options that we have and in this way we will all decide or we will choose on April 20”, said Sorin Grindeanu.

The PSD leader also claimed that the social democrats are not listened to in the governing coalition.

“We are part of this coalition as long as we are listened to, as long as the projects proposed by us are taken over. Another example. Inadmissible! We came in September, we proposed an economic recovery program. Which we presented. And in public and we presented it to the coalition. It was only taken over with threats, in February, six months later. What happened in these six months? Consumption fell every month in Romania. Inflation reached to almost 10%. Yesterday we saw that industrial production, compared to December, decreased by 16%. In the last eight months, 55,000 jobs were lost”, added Grindeanu.
