Iran threatens retaliation for Israel's attacks on key facilities

Iran will pay “a big price” in retaliation for “Israeli crimes”, promised Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, after Friday's attacks that targeted Iranian civil steel and nuclear installations, reports AFP, taken over by Agerpres.

“Israel attacked two of Iran's most important steel plants, a power plant and civilian nuclear sites, among other infrastructure,” “in coordination with the United States,” Araghchi said on the X platform.

The Revolutionary Guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, urged employees at the industrial sites of the Gulf countries, linked to the United States and Israel, to leave these facilities, also promising retaliation for the Israeli-American attacks during the day.

Attack on a reactor

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, reiterated on Friday his call for military restraint to avoid any risk of an accident in Iran, following the Israeli and American attacks on some nuclear sites.

The IAEA was informed by Iran of an attack on the Arkadan power plant in Yadz province (center) on Friday, the IAEA said on X. “No increase in radiation levels outside the site was reported,” the agency added.

Earlier on Friday, the Israeli military confirmed it had struck two sites in central Iran, the Arak heavy water reactor and a uranium processing plant in Yazd province, on the 28th day of the Middle East war.

“The Israeli Air Force attacked (…) the heavy water reactor at Arak,” the army said in a statement, describing it as “a key plutonium production site for nuclear weapons.”

Iranian media reported on two-stage US-Israeli attacks on the compound, now called Khondab, saying they did not cause deaths or increase radiation levels.
